Project Team Attended the UDAP Workshop
Our TDS Program Coordinator, Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gülşen, participated as a member of the project team in the TÜBİTAK-AFAD 1001 UDAP National Earthquake Research Program Projects Evaluation Workshop and the 2026 Joint Call Promotion Program, held on 2–3 April 2026 at the AFAD Presidency in Ankara, within the scope of the project titled “Assessment of Disaster Risk and Preparedness Levels in the Marmara Islands: Development of Scenario-Based Sustainable Evacuation Strategies and Enhancement of Public Awareness.”
👥 Representing the project at the workshop were:
Project Coordinator Assist. Prof. Dr. Salih Tosun,
Project Researchers Assist. Prof. Dr. Erdal Gümüş, and
Assist. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gülşen.
🧭 The programme included comprehensive discussions on earthquake research, digital technologies, risk analysis, evacuation planning, and the socio-economic impacts of disasters.
🌍 The project aims to develop scenario-based, sustainable, and applicable evacuation strategies against multiple hazards such as earthquakes, tsunamis, landslides, fires, and floods in the Marmara Islands and the Erdek Peninsula.
📊 Within the scope of the project, it is aimed to:
evaluate disaster risks through spatial analyses,
measure community evacuation attitudes, and
develop planning models based on stakeholder collaboration.
🎓 This participation is important in terms of enhancing the visibility of our university’s academic and scientific contribution to the fields of disaster management, risk reduction, and community-based preparedness.
