BAUN Academics Publish Strategic Study on Disaster Volunteering
Assist. Prof. Mehmet Gülşen, Coordinator of the Medical Documentation and Secretaryship (TDS) Programme at Balıkesir University, has contributed to a study published in Natural Hazards, an SCI-Expanded Q1 journal.
The article, titled “Volunteer-based disaster response during the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes: a SWOT analysis,” was produced within the scope of a TÜBİTAK 1002 project led by Assist. Prof. Salih Tosun. The study was co-authored by Assist. Prof. Mehmet Gülşen together with Prof. Gökçe Cerev, Prof. Doğa Başar Sarıipek, and Assoc. Prof. Bora Yenihan.
Focusing on volunteer-based disaster response after the 6 February 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes, the study evaluates the field through a SWOT analysis and offers strategic recommendations for more effective and sustainable disaster volunteering in Türkiye.
This publication represents an important academic contribution to the fields of disaster management, volunteer coordination, and community preparedness, while also enhancing the scholarly visibility of the TDS Programme.
